10 Best Things to Do in Dubai

Whether you're visiting for the first time or returning for more, these are the must-see attractions and experiences that define Dubai — all bookable through Conti7 Travel.

Landmark

#1Burj Khalifa

Standing at 828 metres, the Burj Khalifa is the world's tallest building and Dubai's most iconic landmark. The observation deck on the 124th floor (At the Top) offers sweeping 360° views across the city, the Arabian Gulf, and the desert beyond. For the ultimate experience, upgrade to the 148th-floor Sky Lounge — the world's highest observation deck. Book tickets in advance online to avoid queues and save up to 30% versus walk-up prices. The best time to visit is at sunset, when the city transitions from golden hour to a glittering sea of lights. The Burj Khalifa is located at the heart of Downtown Dubai, steps from the Dubai Mall and the Dubai Fountain — making it easy to combine all three in a single evening. Conti7 Travel includes Burj Khalifa access in our Dubai City Tour package.

Insider tip: Book At the Top tickets 2–3 days ahead — sunset slots sell out fast.

Luxury Hotel

#2Burj Al Arab

The Burj Al Arab is arguably the world's most photographed hotel — a sail-shaped tower built on its own artificial island, connected to the mainland by a private bridge. Opened in 1999, it redefined luxury hospitality and remains a global symbol of Dubai's ambition. While only hotel guests can access the rooms, visitors can experience the Burj Al Arab through afternoon tea at the Skyview Bar on the 27th floor, or dinner at one of its nine world-class restaurants. The exterior is best photographed from Jumeirah Beach or from the water on a dhow cruise. For families, the Wild Wadi Waterpark sits directly adjacent and offers a full day of fun with the Burj Al Arab as a backdrop. Conti7 Travel can arrange restaurant reservations and photography tours at this iconic landmark.

Insider tip: Reserve the Skyview Bar afternoon tea at least a week ahead — it books out quickly.

Adventure

#3Desert Safari

A Dubai desert safari is the single most popular activity for first-time visitors — and for good reason. The experience typically begins in the late afternoon when 4x4 Land Cruisers head into the red sand dunes of the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve for exhilarating dune bashing. After the adrenaline rush, the convoy arrives at a traditional Bedouin camp where guests can ride camels, try sandboarding, get henna tattoos, and dress in traditional Emirati attire. As the sun sets over the dunes, a lavish buffet dinner is served under the stars with live entertainment including belly dancing and Tanoura performances. Private desert safaris are available for couples and families seeking a more exclusive experience. Morning safaris are also popular for those who prefer cooler temperatures and photography-perfect golden light. Conti7 Travel arranges both shared and private desert safaris with hotel pickup and drop-off included.

Insider tip: Choose a private safari for a more personal experience — worth the upgrade for families.

#4Dubai Creek & Old Dubai

Old Dubai is the city's historic heart — a world away from the gleaming skyscrapers of Downtown. The Dubai Creek divides the city into Deira (north) and Bur Dubai (south), and the best way to cross it is on an Abra, a traditional wooden water taxi that costs just AED 1. On the Deira side, the Gold Souk dazzles with over 300 jewellery shops displaying tonnes of gold, diamonds, and precious stones. The adjacent Spice Souk fills the air with the scent of saffron, frankincense, and dried limes. On the Bur Dubai side, the Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood (formerly Bastakiya) is a beautifully preserved 19th-century merchant quarter with wind-tower architecture, art galleries, and the Dubai Museum. The nearby Al Seef waterfront development blends heritage architecture with modern cafés and restaurants. This area is best explored in the morning or evening to avoid the midday heat.

Insider tip: Hire a local guide for Al Fahidi — the stories behind the wind towers are fascinating.

Landmark

#5Palm Jumeirah

Palm Jumeirah is one of the most ambitious engineering projects in history — a palm-shaped artificial island extending 5 km into the Arabian Gulf, home to over 30 luxury hotels, hundreds of restaurants, and some of Dubai's finest beaches. The iconic Atlantis The Palm resort anchors the top of the island and houses Aquaventure Waterpark, Dolphin Bay, and the Lost Chambers Aquarium. The Palm Monorail connects the trunk to the Atlantis, offering elevated views across the island and the sea. The Palm's boardwalk is perfect for an evening stroll, with views back towards the Dubai Marina skyline. For the best aerial perspective, take the Palm Jumeirah Observation Deck at the Nakheel Mall. Beach clubs like Cove Beach and Drift Beach offer day passes for non-hotel guests. Conti7 Travel includes Palm Jumeirah in our Dubai City Tour and can arrange Atlantis day passes.

Insider tip: The Palm Monorail is the most scenic way to reach Atlantis — far better than a taxi.

Shopping & Entertainment

#6Dubai Mall & Dubai Fountain

The Dubai Mall is the world's largest shopping mall by total area — with over 1,200 retail outlets, it is far more than a shopping destination. Inside you'll find the Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo (one of the world's largest suspended aquariums), an Olympic-sized ice rink, a VR Park, a dinosaur skeleton, and KidZania. The Dubai Fountain, located on the Burj Khalifa Lake outside the mall, is the world's largest choreographed fountain system — shooting water 150 metres into the air to music every evening from 6 PM. The best free viewing spots are the waterfront promenade and the bridge between the mall and Souk Al Bahar. For a premium experience, book a table at one of the lakeside restaurants for dinner with fountain views. The Dubai Mall is directly connected to the Burj Khalifa metro station, making it easily accessible without a car.

Insider tip: The fountain show runs every 30 minutes from 6 PM — the 8 PM show is the most atmospheric.

3–5 hoursEvening for the fountain showFree entry; Aquarium from AED 100
Theme Park

#7Ferrari World Abu Dhabi

Ferrari World Abu Dhabi on Yas Island is the world's largest indoor theme park and a must for speed enthusiasts and families alike. The centrepiece is Formula Rossa — the world's fastest roller coaster, reaching 240 km/h in under 5 seconds. Beyond the thrill rides, Ferrari World offers immersive driving simulators, a Ferrari factory tour experience, a junior driving school for children, and the spectacular Scuderia Challenge racing simulator. The park is entirely air-conditioned, making it a perfect choice even in summer. Yas Island itself is home to the Abu Dhabi Formula 1 circuit, Yas Waterworld, Warner Bros. World, and the Yas Marina Circuit — making it possible to fill an entire day or two on the island. Ferrari World is approximately 90 minutes from Dubai by road. Conti7 Travel arranges full-day Abu Dhabi and Yas Island excursions from Dubai with private transfers.

Insider tip: Arrive at opening time on a weekday — Formula Rossa queues can exceed 90 minutes later in the day.

#8Global Village

Global Village is Dubai's most popular seasonal attraction — a vast multicultural festival park that opens each year from October to April. Over 90 countries are represented through elaborately themed pavilions, each showcasing their nation's food, handicrafts, performances, and culture. The UAE pavilion is a highlight, as are the India, China, and Africa pavilions. Beyond the cultural experience, Global Village features over 160 rides and attractions, nightly fireworks, and live performances on multiple stages. Street food from around the world makes it a paradise for food lovers — try everything from Brazilian churros to Moroccan tagine to Filipino halo-halo. The park is best visited on weekday evenings to avoid weekend crowds. Global Village is open from approximately October to April each year. Conti7 Travel includes Global Village in our Dubai family tour packages during the season.

Insider tip: Visit on a Tuesday or Wednesday evening — weekends draw enormous crowds.

#9Dubai Dinner Cruise

A Dubai dinner cruise is one of the most romantic and memorable ways to experience the city — gliding along the water as the skyline glitters around you. There are two main routes: the historic Dubai Creek, where traditional dhows pass beneath the illuminated bridges of Old Dubai, and the Dubai Marina, where modern yachts and superyachts line the waterfront. Both routes offer a lavish buffet dinner with international and Arabic cuisine, live entertainment (typically a Tanoura dancer and live music), and unlimited soft drinks. The Marina cruise offers more dramatic modern scenery; the Creek cruise offers more cultural atmosphere. Premium cruises on larger vessels include à la carte dining and open bars. Most cruises depart between 7 PM and 8:30 PM and last approximately 2–3 hours. Conti7 Travel arranges both Creek and Marina dinner cruises with hotel transfers, including private charters for special occasions.

Insider tip: Book the Marina cruise for the most photogenic skyline views — the JBR and Marina towers are stunning at night.

2–3 hoursEvening (7–8:30 PM departure)From AED 150 (shared) / AED 800+ (private charter)
Water Adventure

#10Aquaventure Waterpark

Aquaventure Waterpark at Atlantis The Palm is consistently rated one of the world's best waterparks — and for good reason. The park features over 105 rides and attractions, including the iconic Leap of Faith — a near-vertical 27-metre drop through a shark-filled lagoon. The Master Blaster series of uphill water coasters is unique in the region, and the 2.3 km Lazy River winds through the entire resort. Aquaventure also includes a private beach with sun loungers, a dedicated children's splash zone (Splashers), and multiple dining options. Day pass guests receive access to the beach and all rides. The park is best visited in the morning when queues are shortest. During summer (June–September), the park is less crowded and tickets are significantly discounted. Conti7 Travel arranges Aquaventure day passes with hotel transfers as part of our Dubai family packages.

Insider tip: Arrive at 10 AM when the park opens — the most popular slides have 5-minute queues versus 45 minutes by noon.

Getting Around

How to Get Around Dubai

Dubai is a large, spread-out city. Knowing your transport options makes a huge difference to your experience.

Dubai Metro

The Dubai Metro is the cleanest, most affordable way to travel between major attractions. The Red Line connects the airport to the Mall of the Emirates, Dubai Mall, and Dubai Marina. A Nol card (reloadable travel card) costs AED 25 and covers metro, bus, and tram. The metro runs from 5:30 AM to midnight (2 AM on Fridays).

AED 3–8 per journeyBest for: Airport transfers, Downtown, Marina

Taxis & Ride-Hailing

Dubai taxis are metered, air-conditioned, and very affordable by international standards. Uber and Careem (the regional equivalent) operate throughout the city and are often faster than waiting for a street taxi. All taxis accept cash and cards. Ride-hailing is the most flexible option for reaching attractions not served by the metro.

AED 12 flag fall + AED 1.96/kmBest for: Flexibility, off-metro destinations

Car Rental

Renting a car gives maximum flexibility, especially for day trips to Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, or Oman. Roads are excellent and well-signposted. Parking is widely available and inexpensive. An international driving licence is required for most nationalities. Petrol is very cheap by global standards (around AED 3/litre).

From AED 100/dayBest for: Day trips, families, flexible itineraries

Public Bus

Dubai's public bus network is extensive and very affordable, covering areas the metro doesn't reach. All buses are air-conditioned. The Nol card works on all buses. Bus F55 connects the metro to Palm Jumeirah; Bus 8 connects Deira to Bur Dubai along the Creek.

AED 3–5 per journeyBest for: Budget travel, reaching outer areas

Dubai Travel Questions Answered

Everything you need to know before visiting Dubai — answered by our travel experts.

What are the top attractions in Dubai?

Dubai's top attractions include the Burj Khalifa, Burj Al Arab, Palm Jumeirah, Dubai Creek & Old Dubai, the Dubai Mall & Fountain, Desert Safari, Ferrari World, Global Village, Aquaventure Waterpark, and Dubai Dinner Cruise. Conti7 Travel can arrange guided access to all of them.

What is the best time to visit Dubai?

The best time to visit Dubai is November to March, when temperatures are pleasant (18–28°C) and outdoor activities are comfortable. January and February are the peak months, coinciding with the Dubai Shopping Festival and Dubai Food Festival. Summer (June–September) is extremely hot (35–43°C) but offers hotel discounts of up to 70%.

How many days do you need in Dubai?

We recommend 5–7 days to experience Dubai's top attractions comfortably. A 3-day itinerary covers the highlights (Burj Khalifa, Desert Safari, Old Dubai). 5 days allows you to add Palm Jumeirah, Dubai Mall, and a dinner cruise. 7+ days opens up day trips to Abu Dhabi, Ferrari World, and the UAE's desert interior.

Can Conti7 arrange a Dubai desert safari?

Yes. Conti7 arranges both private and shared desert safaris including dune bashing in a 4x4 Land Cruiser, camel rides, sandboarding, and a traditional Bedouin camp dinner with live entertainment. We handle all logistics including hotel pickup and drop-off. Private safaris are available for couples and families seeking a more exclusive experience.

Is Dubai good for families?

Dubai is one of the world's best family destinations. World-class theme parks include Ferrari World, IMG Worlds of Adventure, and Global Village. Waterparks include Aquaventure at Atlantis The Palm and Wild Wadi. The Dubai Mall has KidZania, an ice rink, and a VR Park. Beaches are clean and safe. Conti7 Travel specialises in family travel planning and can build a bespoke Dubai family itinerary.

Do I need a visa to visit Dubai?

Visa requirements depend on your nationality. Citizens of the EU, UK, USA, Canada, Australia, and most GCC countries receive a free visa on arrival for 30–90 days. Indian, Pakistani, and many Asian passport holders require a pre-arranged visa. Conti7 Travel provides visa assistance as part of our travel packages — we handle the application process on your behalf.

What is the currency in Dubai and can I use credit cards?

The currency is the UAE Dirham (AED). Credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Amex) are accepted almost everywhere — hotels, restaurants, malls, taxis, and most souks. ATMs are widely available. It is worth carrying a small amount of cash (AED 100–200) for abra rides, small souks, and tips. Currency exchange rates at airport bureaux are poor — use a bank ATM or exchange office in the city.

Is Dubai safe for tourists?

Dubai is consistently ranked among the safest cities in the world for tourists. Crime rates are extremely low, and the city has a strong police presence. Solo female travellers, families, and LGBTQ+ travellers visit Dubai in large numbers. The main things to be aware of are dress codes in religious sites and public spaces (modest clothing is expected), and alcohol laws (drinking in public outside licensed venues is not permitted).

What should I wear in Dubai?

Dubai is relatively liberal compared to other Gulf cities, but modest dress is expected in public spaces, souks, and religious sites. Shorts and t-shirts are fine at the beach and in hotels. In malls and on the street, avoid very short shorts or revealing tops. When visiting mosques, women must cover their hair, arms, and legs; men must cover their shoulders and knees. Swimwear is only appropriate at the beach or pool.

How do I get from Dubai Airport to the city?

Dubai International Airport (DXB) is one of the best-connected airports in the world. The Dubai Metro Red Line connects Terminals 1 and 3 directly to Downtown Dubai, the Dubai Mall, and Dubai Marina — a journey of 20–35 minutes costing AED 8–12. Taxis are available outside all terminals and cost AED 50–80 to Downtown. Conti7 Travel arranges private airport transfers as part of all our Dubai packages.

What is the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve?

The Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve (DDCR) is a 225 km² protected nature reserve on the eastern edge of Dubai, established in 2002. It is home to the Arabian oryx, sand gazelles, and over 150 bird species. Most desert safari operators are licensed to operate within the reserve. The DDCR ensures that dune bashing and safari activities are conducted sustainably, with strict limits on vehicle numbers and routes.

Can I visit Abu Dhabi as a day trip from Dubai?

Yes — Abu Dhabi is approximately 90–120 minutes from Dubai by road and makes an excellent day trip. Top highlights include the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque (one of the world's most beautiful mosques, free entry), Ferrari World and Yas Island theme parks, the Louvre Abu Dhabi, and the Corniche waterfront. Conti7 Travel arranges full-day Abu Dhabi tours from Dubai with private transfers and a licensed guide.

What is the Dubai Fountain and when does it perform?

The Dubai Fountain is the world's largest choreographed fountain system, located on the Burj Khalifa Lake in Downtown Dubai. The fountain shoots water up to 150 metres into the air, choreographed to Arabic, classical, and contemporary music. Performances run every 30 minutes from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM daily, and at 1:00 PM and 1:30 PM on Fridays. The best free viewing spots are the waterfront promenade outside the Dubai Mall. Boat rides on the lake offer a closer view for AED 25.

Is alcohol available in Dubai?

Alcohol is available in Dubai but only in licensed venues — hotels, restaurants with a liquor licence, and designated bars and clubs. You cannot buy alcohol in supermarkets (except at the government-licensed MMI and African+Eastern stores). Drinking in public, on the beach, or in unlicensed venues is illegal. The legal drinking age is 21. During Ramadan, alcohol service may be restricted to certain hours.
